Harvest Day

On the sunny afternoon of Saturday June 30th, The Addington Farm had it’s first ever harvest and we hoped to involve as many people as possible. With our freshly painted sign, we were ready to go.

The day started with pulling up the vegetables, setting up stalls and putting up bunting. We had a sizeable crop for the middle of winter with plenty of beetroot, kale and bok choi. A crew from South West Youth Community showed up to help us prepare our veges for sale by washing and bunching it all.

It was fantastic to see so many of our neighbours coming to our home, we met heaps of new people and reconnected with lots of old friends. Overall we reckon that over a hundred people came to visit, of all ages stages and walks of life, mostly from around the neighbourhood. All our produce went for a gold coin, and with coffee for sale as well people stayed to chat with their mates. It was great to the number of children the came along and we were very impressed with all of their rock painting creations!

The Addington Farm exists to nurture community as well as plants, and those networks of relationships that already exist in our neighbourhood were so clear on our harvest day, we feel very lucky to call Addington our home.
